With Gelbvieh cattle at the core of our operation, it allows us to add complementary breeds to create the perfect product for our customers, whether it's growing your herd or amplifying your dining experience.
We use the Black and Red Angus breeds as our first cross to compliment the Gelbvieh maternal strengths with enhanced growth and marbling qualities
When we add in the "Akaushi" cattle (red Wagyu) to our breeding mix, you get an tasting experience that is equivalent to dining at some of the finest steakhouses across the country
You may have never even heard of the Gelbvieh cattle breed, which originated in Germany all the way back in 1850, however we think they are a hidden gem in the cattle industry. The Gelbvieh cattle breed is widely recognized for strengths like fertility, docility, longevity, and are very efficient gainers on both grass and grain. The Gelbvieh breed provides everything we look for in a good maternal cow, and when we cross that with the Angus breed it's the icing on the cake. That F1 crossbreed of Angus and Gelbvieh cattle produces the Balancer breed of cattle. Balancer steers have constantly won awards for their carcass traits and we hope to continue to add to that progress over the years.
When we select Gelbvieh genetics for our herd, the first thing we look at is the physical make-up of the cow. We want good feet, good udders, a slick coat in the summer, and a few other unique traits. When we get into the genetic make-up of our cows, we look for good docility scores, high fertility and stayability so that we know we have a cow that will grow with us and stay with us, high-average milking scores, and strong growth traits like weaning and yearling weights.
Our goal is to develop top of the line maternal genetics within the Gelbvieh breed, and we hope we can help you implement those into your herd as well one day soon.
As we started our operation in 2022, we searched far and wide to find top genetics in the Gelbvieh breed. Surprisingly, it was very hard to find Gelbvieh embryos that could help expedite that growth phase. We aim to offer top genetics to our clients who are looking to add those Gelbvieh maternal traits to their herd, and fast-track their success timeline.
Angus cattle are known for producing a high degree of Prime-rated beef, which is the top USDA beef rating and requires a very high level of marbling and tenderness. Angus cattle are also wonderful mothers themselves and provide the care, high milking capabilities, and nutrients to produce a top calf each year. That is something we continue to build our herd around, which is why we have found the Angus breeds of cattle to be the perfect compliment to our Gelbvieh base. We have both traditional Black Angus and Red Angus cattle, and we use the Angus genetics as the perfect compliment for the final stage in the process with our Akaushi cattle.
Balancer cattle must fall between at least 25%-75% Gelbvieh, with the other makeup Angus. We love the Balancer difference because of their excellent reproductive traits, their efficient growth traits, and their high yielding beef carcass traits. Our Balancer cattle often come in at higher pregnancy rates and higher weaning weights, even while typically having lower birth weights. That means there are less issues that arise during pregnancy when the calf is smaller (less stress). Even with smaller birth-weight calves, our cows still do a tremendous job in growing their calves by providing the right amount of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients through the milk they produce. They perform well in the warmer Southeastern summers, and hold weight even through the winters when grass production is down. They have the best of the best - growth and muscle that the Gelbvieh breed brings, the high marbling characteristics from the Angus, and the top of the line mothering and fertility traits from both.
As we continue to build and improve our herd with the core Gelbvieh and complimentary Angus breeds, we found that the best way to provide an unforgettable eating experience to our customers is to add the "icing on the cake" with the intense marbling of the Akaushi cattle. One bite, and you'll know why!
